The office of the Dutch National Rapporteur was represented at the international ELPAT-congress on ethical, legal and psychosocial aspects of transplantation. At the congress, which was held in Rotterdam on 19 and 20 April, the head of office explained the link between organ trade and trafficking in human beings. He stressed that international cooperation is essential for combating this crime.

The study of the Dutch National Rapporteur on human trafficking for the purpose of the removal of organs and forced commercial surrogacy is now available in English. In the report, the Rapporteur focuses on current developments in the field of organ donation and the forced removal of organs and – for the first time – argues that forced commercial surrogacy could fall within the scope of human trafficking.

The National Rapporteur will present her First Report on Child Pornography to the United Nations (UN) on 6 June 2012. Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Violence against Children, Ms. Marta Santos Pais will receive the report at the UNICEF headquarters in New York, in the presence of Mr. Christian Salazar, Deputy Director Programme Division of UNICEF and Ms. Susan Bissell, UNICEF Associate Director, Chief Child Protection.

Due to the efforts of several MPs, NGOs (e.g. ECPAT) and the Dutch police, the National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings – Mrs. Corinne Dettmeijer-Vermeulen – was appointed by the Minister of Justice as the first rapporteur on child pornography in October 2009.
