Dutch Rapporteur speaks at UN expert meeting on ICT and violence against children
The Dutch Rapporteur is attending the Expert Consultation on ICTs and Violence against Children in Costa Rica on 9 and 10 June. The Expert Consultation will bring together experts from national governments, UN agencies, international organizations, independent children’s rights institutions, academia, civil society organizations and the corporate sector. The UN Special Representative on Violence against Children has invited rapporteur Corinne Dettmeijer to reflect on the protection of children against sexual violence in the light of the rapid global digital developments.
It is organised by UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children Marta Santos Pais and UNICEF in cooperation with civil society partner organisations. It will be hosted by the Government of Costa Rica. During the expert consultation the online risks which children may experience will be discussed, as well as the nature and amount of online violence against children and the way governments, companies and NGOs should cooperate to tackle these problems. The Dutch Rapporteur will elaborate on the findings from her reports on child pornography (2011) and sexual violence against children (2014).
