Researching and Reporting on Trafficking in Human Beings

Growing attention to the subject of trafficking in human beings highlights the real need for more knowledge on its nature and scale. In the absence of reliable estimates the Dutch National Rapporteur encourages the data collection and analysis within a statistical framework such as suggested in the article.

Statistics can 1) inform policy makers, 2) expose bottlenecks in anti-trafficking measures, and 3) point to the direction where further research is needed. The contribution of the Dutch National Rapporteur to this La Strada Express is an extract of a forthcoming article of De Vries and Dettmeijer in the next UN Forum on Crime and Society.
