Position Paper: New EU proposal for a regulation laying down the rules to prevent and combat child sexual abuse calls for a substantive discussion
Currently, the European Union is considering a new regulation to prevent and combat child sexual abuse. In this position paper, the National Rapporteur reflects on the pros and cons of this new regulation. In the current proposal for the regulation, insufficient attention is paid to the impact of the regulation during implementation. Regarding the impact on fundamental human rights and effectiveness in reducing sexual violence against children, the National Rapporteur sees a number of risks in the proposal. "I would like to ask the Dutch government to have a broader discussion and include these considerations in its negotiations."
